Go East Tour 2003
Nice people
Travelling alone you always meet a lot of people and most of them are really nice but
unfortunately most of them you never meet again :-(
Anyway, here´s a brief and incomplete collection of persons, faces and stories
(in order of appearance)
(pls. click on photo to enlarge)
This was a very long trip and I met really alot of
people, so in some cases names might be missing or misspelled, either
because I lost them or I have forgotten them. So don´t be angry with me,
just send me an E-Mail and I will correct them :-)
Germany

Visited my old friend Heike in
Berlin before leaving Greetings to Achim
:-) |
Poland
 |
For the first time I
had the chance to meet my pen pal Jakub and his family from Warsaw,
having a nice dinner that night |
 |
She was the waitress, working
at the restaurant, where I met Jakub, speaking fluently German |
 |
|
|
They had a flat tire and no
tools, so I helped them |
Latvia
 |
Arriving in Riga after having
tecnical problems I met Manni and Hermann from Hannover. We had some
drinks and a lot of fun. |
 |
My first hitchhikers close to
the latvian estonian border |

 |
A german group with
an estonian tour guide (left).
The first time I met them in Cesis (LT) and met them again at the
border, then in Vilnius and later in an old castle close to Vilnius. |
 |
I started wondering,
when I and where I would meet them again. |
Poland (2nd time)
 |
My last night in
Poland close to the ukranian border was not really amusing. The only
fun was playing football with these kids until we where chased away by
some elderly people. who still had problems with Germans. |
 |
|
Ukraina
 |
Sergej invited me for
dinner in his flat, in Kiev strange situation getting invited by a
person you don´t know. But we had a lot of fun and wine :-). No chance
to take a picture of him, but of his dog |
 |
Met Victor on a beach
close to Sewastopol, because he had a german numberplate on his camper |
 |
Spent three days on
this beach with Victor and all his friends, what a wonderful time and a
good chance to learn a lot about ukranian people. |
 |
Most interesting was
triing to comunicate with his friend Michail (left). I should learn
russian. It was extremly fascinating. Michail, thanks for all your time
and ideas |
 |
Borislawa (Michails
daughter), her brother and their friend Ira. |

song was Chihuahua by DJ Bobo and they never got tired dancing around
my truck all day long. Hope to here from you in the future |

Tanja and Edik, my
other "neighbors" on that beach. Edik invited me for a bottle of Cognac
the first night, what a headache the next day. |

Tanja worked for a
shipping company in the harbor of Odessa. Her male colleagues where
quite unfriendly, but she tried her very best for hours to find a way
for me toget through Moldava to Romania, thank you so much. this was a
stunning experience |
 |
Frans and his wife, a
dutch couple with their two sons. We met on a campsite in Odessa and
talked alot, what interessting stories to tell. |
 |
Peter belonged to a
Rotel group staying for two nights on that campsite in Odessa. He
helped me to remove my broken side bars from the truck |
 |
Alois was the driver
of the Rotel truck.Rotel tours uses converted coaches with small cells
to sleep in, very strange and nothing for me.
But we had long and interessting talks, he has a
lot of experience, travelling abroad. Also he invited me for dinner,
giving me the chance to try their food, not too bad. Good luck in
Russia and the Sahara.
PS: Red onions are really better for salad |
